Baltazar Contractors of Ludlow has announced that it will begin work on a $3.1 million reconstruction project of Springfield Street in Three Rivers on Monday, July 6.
The project, which is being funded and supervised by the Massachusetts Highway Department will reconstruct and make improvements to a 1.25 mile section of Springfield Street from the Wilbraham town line to the intersection of Bridge Street. The completion date for the project is June 8, 2011.
During portions of the construction project, traffic may be reduced to one lane, so delays can be expected. Your patience and cooperation will be appreciated.
The following is a list of improvements that can be expected:
- Signalization of the Main and Bridge Street intersection
- Springfield Street will be widened to 33 feet and consists of two 11.5 foot travel lanes and two 5 foot shoulders
- A 5-foot cement concrete sidewalk on the south side is proposed for the entire length with an additional 5-foot grass strip proposed, between the curb and sidewalk, along some sections
The proposed work consists of excavation by cold planer, hot mix asphalt overlay, earth excavation, full depth hot mix asphalt pavement construction, drainage system improvements, hot mix asphalt berm installation, sidewalk and wheelchair ramp construction, granite curb installation, hot mix asphalt and gravel driveway construction, waterline replacement, abandoned track removal, pavement markings, signing, landscaping, and other incidental items necessary to complete the required work.
